Health, as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It is true – healthy body boosts healthy mind. Trailblazers Foundation has organized blood donation drive and dental check up in Thane and has done need assessment for the community in Mahuli, Maharashtra as a part of its health initiatives.

Need

India has shortage of doctors and hospital bed in proportion to her population. Urban and rural India is greatly affected due to adverse doctor population ratio and other inadequate medical infrastructure. The existing healthcare infrastructure and facility is mostly managed by private practitioners and concentrated in urban areas. Government medical facilities are inadequate in servicing rural population with poor infrastructure.

Objectives

To create awareness on importance of health and hygiene.

To facilitate healthcare by collaborating with government and community for access to good quality healthcare services.

BLOOD DONATION

Blood donation is one of the most significant contributions that a person can make towards the society. It is not harmful for an adult person to donate blood. The body of the donor can regenerate the blood within few days. It poses no threat to the metabolism of the body. Trailblazers Foundation conducts Blood donation camps in regular intervals at Edenwoods Club House, in a recent blood donation camp in span of four hours 26 units of Blood was collected. The founder and trustees were all present for the camp. The turnout of donors has always been remarkable however due to health obligations not all could donate.

HEALTH CAMPS

Dental Camps

Oral Hygiene is the most neglected area when it comes to health unaware of its repercussions. The teeth are directly connected to many important body parts like brain and heart. Trailblazers Foundation decided to get onto the mission of spreading dental awareness through dental camps on periodic basis. Accompanied by Dr. Sudiksha Puranik and Dr. Uday Puranik a dental camp was conducted at a Municipal school in Thane. The doctors reported 76% of the students needed major dental treatments. Trailblazers Foundation is planning to share the findings of dental camp with the education officer of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) in order to be able to take appropriate action to prevent dental problems and promote dental hygiene among school children.

Medical Camp for Rural children in Asangaon

The rural children are not as blessed as the urban residents; many of them are also unaware that they have a medical condition. Trailblazers Foundation along with Switch India decided to have a medical camp for health and dental check up. There were around 90 students of a Zilla Parishad along with their families were examined. Medications for anaemia, antibiotics, malnutrition packets and deworming tablets were also distributed. Trailblazers Foundation believes in doing more of such camps so that the residents are aware and maintain their health on regular basis.

AWARENESS DRIVES

Village Awareness on Health Literacy

Trailblazers Foundation realises the importance of educating the rural residents about health and decided to carry on Village awareness on Health Literacy, to execute this optimally Dr. Indira Shukla, principal of Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education and Research would conduct a door to door health literacy campaign in the village by the B.Ed students under the community component. The focus was on women and children health and hygiene. With full support of the village Sarpanch the campaign was successfully conducted, the villagers benefited from it and realised that they need to align themselves with health and hygiene for a healthy living. Trailblazers Foundation has a dream to initiate to ideal community which walks the path of India’s smart and developed village. With such campaigns we believe we will achieve our dream soon.
